Equidad de Género, Ciudadanía, Trabajo y Familia A.C. (Gender Equity: Citizenship, Work and Family) is a civil society organization founded in 1996 to promote equality between women and men through the development and incorporation of public policy proposals with a gender perspective and the strengthening of women’s leadership and civil participation in all aspects of political and social life in Mexico.
Equidad’s staff is comprised of professionals from a variety of disciplines, including: economists, educators, lawyers, sociologists, communications specialists, social workers, translators, administrators, psychologists, doctors, and activists specializing in advocacy work at the three levels of government decision-making (municipal, state, and federal).
Equidad’s founders are five widely respected Mexican feminists renowned for their commitment to and experience with defending women’s rights and promoting gender equity. The organization is currently directed by Maria Eugenia Romero, a nationally and internationally recognized feminist with 30 years of experience in and commitment to promoting and defending women’s rights.
Women leaders that collaborate with Equidad have received diverse national and international prizes and recognitions for their work and social commitment. Some of them have been called upon to occupy decision-making posts in state or federal governments.
Our organization specializes in the following topics: political participation, citizenship, democracy, abortion, teen pregnancy, emergency contraception, sexual and reproductive rights, gender, sexually transmitted infections, contraceptive methods, maternal health, sexuality, violence, public budgets, the Lay State, family democratization, among others.
Equidad de Género: Ciudadanía, Trabajo y Familia A.C. is a feminist organization that promotes gender equality as well as the rule of law by advocating for public policies with a gender perspective, and strengthening women’s leadership and civil participation in all areas of political and social life.
Our organizational vision is of a democratic society with broad citizen participation where women and men can make decisions about their lives where the rule of law and gender-responsive institutions exist.
